A First for Me

Have any of you been in a parade?Β  It’s very surreal – and fun 😊  Every year before the county fair starts there is a parade downtown.Β  The Bitterroot Humane Society always does a β€œwalk” with some of the precious doggies available for adoption.Β  This year I volunteered to walk a sweet girl named Petunia.Β

The Humane Society will be participating in a Howling Halloween event and so for this parade the dogs were dressed up – for promotion and attention πŸ˜‰Β  Petunia went as a hot dog, and she got lots of attention πŸ˜€

There was a 10-lb puppy dressed like a pig.  Nothing cuter.  There was a big boy with a dinosaur costume but it didn’t hold up well after he was done with his roll in the street.

There was a wait before the parade started.  Lots to do, of course, organizing and lining up.  It was a nice time for us to visit with folks on their way to watch the parade, most of them stopping to say hi and pet the doggies.

Hamilton is a small town so walking down Main Street took about 10 minutes 😊  There were β€œchickens”, equestrian groups, kids, and a couple of floats.Β  Walking Petunia kept me paying attention, and part of the way I supported one end of the Humane Society’s banner, so all I noticed on the short walk was lots of people and kids waving from the sidewalks.Β  It was loud with drums and the crowd.Β  I remember not being able to recognize store fronts or what block we were in – just so much going on!Β  And then it was over!

A few people followed us, running alongside asking about the dogs.Β  Β The puppy and one of the big dogs were adopted right away.Β  All that were there are now in their forever homes – such a good feeling for all involved – a feeling that includes gratitude, satisfaction and happiness.Β
